New Delhi (Fides Service) - The Catholic Archbishop of New Delhi, Archbishop Vincent Concessao sent a message of congratulations to Lal Krishna Advani, newly elected leader of the nationalist Hindu Party Baratiya Janata Party which governed India in the last legislation and was defeated by Congress Party in elections in April this year..
In the message the Archbishop encouraged Mr Advani to promote harmony among the different communities in India so as to prevent blood and violence from prevailing in society. Recalling that recently Mr Advani condemned inter-religious violence, the Archbishop said “all minority groups including, Dalits and Tribals must be given trust and support to develop at the social, economic and cultural level”.
Asking Mr Advani to clarify the BJP position with regard to religious minorities which he said “remains a matter of concern and anxiety”, Archbishop Concessao called on the new BJP chairman to lead his Party “to play a constructive role in the political life of the country”, keeping in mind the common good and development of the whole country as well as the noble goals of India’s Constitution. The Archbishop assured the political leader of his personal support and prayers that his leadership “may bear fruits for the whole nation”.
