ASIA/CHINA - Lent in the Year of Faith in Tai Yuan: spirituality and evangelisation

Tai Yuan (Agenzia Fides) – In the diocese of Tai Yuan (Shan Xi, province, mainland China) the period of Lent in this Year of Faith proclaimed by the Pope, is proving to be a time of intense spirituality and evangelisation. Fides learned from the diocesan bulletin He Bei (Faith), priests, women religious and seminarians gathered for a diocesan assembly, 15 and 16 February, to start the Season of Lent, welcomed two Bishops to the meeting: Bishop Li Jian Tang, diocesan ordinary of Tai Yuan, and his coadjutor Bishop Meng Ning You. Bishop Li, in his address, recalling a long life of service to the Church, underlined the importance of faith and spirituality in the life of priests and consecrated persons. Whereas Bishop Meng, focused his words on the pastoral activities of the year 2012, highlighting challenges and difficulties faced with maximum missionary commitment. The coadjutor Bishop encouraged the priests and nuns to strive for renewal of heart during this Lenten season, so as to be "worthy sentinels of Christ " and authentic promoters of evangelization.
