ASIA/CHINA - A small community of the Diocese of Feng Xiang becomes a point of reference for evangelization

Feng Xiang (Agenzia Fides) - The parish of Nan Guan of the deanery of Bao Ji, in the diocese of Feng Xiang of Shaan Xi province, is a small community of about 200 faithful, but shows remarkable capacity for evangelization, since it has 45 baptized in the year just ended. His Excf. Mgr. Lucas Li Jing Feng, ninety-year-old Bishop of the Diocese of Feng Xiang, often visits the parish to encourage the faithful to the mission of evangelization. As reported to Fides Agency by Faith of He Bei, at Christmas Mgr. Li administered Baptism to 10 catechumens of the parish, before thousands of faithful from throughout the diocese, during Solemn Mass of Christmas Eve, which was followed by more than an hour of the procession of light. On the Solemnity of the Assumption of Mary, Mgr. Li administered the Sacrament of Confirmation to 8 faithful and Baptism to 4 catechumens. At Easter he baptized nine people. According to the Bishop, the parish is small, "but it is a point refernce of evangelization for the diocese," and promised, "I will come more often in order to encourage your mission and also to set an example to other base ecclesial communities, especially in the Year of Faith.
