Hong Kong (Agenzia Fides) – Pastoral care and summer service for the youth of the parishes in the diocese of Hong Kong help the integral development of children, regardless of their creed. According to reports from the Kong Ko Bao (the diocesan bulletin in Chinese), the parishes in Hong Kong are mobilized to offer this service for children since the beginning of the summer holidays.
Each parish chose a specific theme to suit according to the pastoral needs and social service. Children of families, especially those of immigrants and those in financial difficulty and also non-Christian families, are the main focus of the parish of the Mother of Christ. "Because we want these people to feel the solidarity and love of the church," says the head of the Parish Pastoral Council.
The formation of young Catholic leaders is instead the theme chosen by the parish of St. Andrew to "strengthen the trust in God and in themselves," said the pastor. "We have about seventy young volunteers, to whom we have entrusted 38 children from the end of July to August as a concrete exercise to be a Catholic leader. From Monday to Wednesday, they organize the work in the parish, on Friday visits or pilgrimages in other parishes or in the sanctuary. In this way we increase the awareness of young leaders to be future activists of the Church, and help children to spend a very significant holiday in the formation of faith."
