Tai Pei (Agenzia Fides) – His Exc. Mgr. John Hung SVD, Archbishop of Tai Pei and President of the Regional Episcopal Conference of Taiwan, encouraged and hopes that the Church of Taiwan may have a greater number of permanent deacons at his service. According to reports from the Catholic Weekly, Bulletin of the Archdiocese of Tai Pei, Mgr. Hung expressed this desire during the ordination of two diocesan deacons, held on June 30, concelebrated by thirty priests. The Archbishop invited young people to actively respond to God's call to live the life of Jesus and renewed his invitation to attend the meeting on "Project formation of permanent deacons" to be held on 27 and 28 July. On this occasion, Msgr. Dominic Chang, Vicar of the Diocese of Hong Kong, and a permanent deacon with 20 years of experience, will present the theme "History, development, current affairs, formation and prospects of the permanent deacon." According to Msgr. Hung "in view of the 50 years anniversary of the II Vatican Council, the Archdiocese of Taipei wants to trace the experience of the primitive community, which always relied on the mission of the laity." The ordination of the two diocesan deacons, who will now continue their journey in view of their priesthood, was a big feast for the archdiocese because the last ordination dates back to 12 years ago.
