ASIA/TAIWAN - Appointment of the Bishop of Chiayi

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Norbert Pu, of the clergy of Chiayi, until now parish priest of Christ the King in Putzu, as bishop of the diocese of Chiayi, Taiwan.
Msgr. Norbert Pu was born on 26 August 1958 in Alishan, Chiayi, Taiwan. He received a bachelor’s degree in philosophy in 1980 and in theology in 1985 from the Faculty of Theology Saint Robert Bellarmine of the Fu Jen Catholic University. He studied at Saint Augustin University in Germany from 1994 to 2000, where he was awarded a master’s degree in theology.
He was ordained a priest on 1 January 1987.
Since priestly ordination he has held the following offices: parish priest of Saint John’s Cathedral (1988-1994); chancellor of the diocese (2000-2016); acting parish priest of the diocesan Pilgrimages Centre (2003-2004); parish priest of Saint John’s Cathedral (2004-2016); diocesan consultor (2008-2009); president of the Commission for the Aboriginal Apostolate (2009-2010); president of the Commission for the Liturgy (2010-2011); spiritual director of the pastoral regions of Chiayi (2011-2013); member of the Cemeteries Commission for the diocesan Pilgrimages Centre and the Finance Commission (2013-2014); spiritual director (2014-2015); member of the Priests’ Council (2015-2016); sabbatical year for further studies in Germany (June 2016-July 2017) and, from 2017 to the present, parish priest of Christ the King in Putzu.
Since 2017 he has served as diocesan consultor, member of the Priests’ Council and of the Commission for Infant Schools, and since 2018, vice-president of the Commission for the Liturgy and chaplain of the Catholic High School of Hong Ren. (SL) (Agenzia Fides, 15/2/2022)
