Thursday, 22 September 2011

Santo Domingo (Agenzia Fides) - The Latin American Association of Radio Education (LARE) today celebrates the 39th anniversary of its founding. It is a reality that promotes communication in different situations, local and national building a continental network which today is formed by 14 countries. The radio in Latin America is able to enter many homes to assist in the process of evangelization and human promotion, in this context LARE has contributed to education through the means of the radio, it has given its contribution to form and strengthen national and regional networks and has encouraged the development of other radios with new technologies; has promoted the collaboration with partner organizations to reach more people more efficiently.
For this occasion the Latin American Catholic Organization and Caribbean Communication, have published Humberto Vandenbulcke’s statement, promoter of the popular communication of LARE, of which we report some excerpts. Among the main elements that distinguish LARE, Vandenbulcke cites "the ability to be able to place oneself in the reality that he believes necessary to generate those changes, both within and outside the organization, with communication projects. In the various socio-political contexts of Latin America, LARE has proven to be an organization that changes".
In addition, the Association has always been concerned about the situation of the most vulnerable, in various and complex socio-political contexts in which it was found since its foundation, and has maintained a critical look at the external environment in order to formulate proposals concerning communication that can contribute to social change. "The major innovations of LARE were not copied or imported from outside", said Vandenbulcke, stating: "Most were the result of collective processes of reflection and analysis, and decision-making process that involved radio managers and other coordination partners".
