AMERICA/BRAZIL - "Cry of the Excluded": today the people’s demonstration "for life, for rights"

Wednesday, 7 September 2011

St. Paul (Agenzia Fides) - Today in most Brazilian states, the 17th edition of the "Cry of the Excluded" is celebrated (Grito de los/as excluidos/as), the people’s demonstration which has the support of the social pastoral Sector of the national Conference of Brazilian Bishops (NCBB), the pastoral land Commission, the National Council of Christian Churches of Brazil, movements and organizations working for equality, justice and life.
On the day when the independence of Brazil is celebrated, September 7, the theme for this year’s "Cry" is life and the recognition of rights: "¡Por la Vida grita la tierra...Por derechos todos nosotros ...!". Thousands of Brazilians, men and women, will therefore take to the streets where there will be long processions to express their discomfort and seek answers to urgent problems such as the living standards in the world, electricity taxes are too high, the right to have a decent home, unemployment, respect for women, indigenous peoples, children and adolescents ...
