AFRICA/GUINEA BISSAU - Missionary experience for a group of young Portuguese for the whole month of August

Bissau (Fides Service) - A group of young Portuguese havearrived in Guinea-Bissau to carry out a missionary experience at the Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate Conception Hospital.
According to a statement sent to Fides the youth will work throughout the month of August at Buba in the Diocese of Bafata and at Cumura hospital in the Diocese of Bissau. The youth are accompanied by Sister Mary Emilia da Silva Monteiro, Provincial of the SistersHospital, and by Sister Neltina Famato Cassama, hospital workerfrom Guinea Bissau who works in Porto.
The delegation was received by His Excellency Jose Camnate Na Bissign , Bishop of Bissau, and His Exc. Mgr. Pedro Zilli, Bishop of Bafata. The Bishop of Bissau underlined that the presence of missionaries in Guinea-Bissau is one of the most interesting things that the country has, and is a sign of hope. "This encourages us and comforts us in our efforts to build a better world" , said Mgr. Na Bissign .
In Guinea Bissau, the Hospital Sisters have realized several projects, including one known as "Fidjo in Buba", to help disadvantaged children. (L.M.) (Agenzia Fides 06/08/2011)
