Tuesday, 2 August 2011

Hong Kong (Fides Service) - For the Catholic community in Hong Kong, the annual exhibition "Hong Kong Book Fair" (which was held from July 20 to 26) is an opportunity for evangelization and interreligious exchange. His Exc. Mgr. John Tong, Bishop of Hong Kong said during the opening ceremony and blessing of the international book fair in Hong Kong.
According to reports from the Kong Ko Bao (the Chinese version of the diocesan bulletin), Mgr. Tong said: "The Church can carry out the mission of evangelization through their publications, books and other media of communication". The diocesan Catholic community was able to use 13 exhibition spaces, where Catholic publications were presented. According to the volunteers who were in charge of the exhibition spaces "Here everything can become an opportunity for evangelization. Even the smile of someone at the counter is the best way to express the Catholic identity". "At the fair, we met people of other faiths and of different social backgrounds", added the volunteers. "This helped us to understand and know other realities and is a sign of religious harmony".
Every day during the fair period, "I-Talk", a meeting with priests and religious was held to share and deepen the meaning of life, responding to doubts and questions from visitors. Like every year, institutions and Catholic cultural realities and social communications were present at the fair: the Catholic Laity Association (see Fides 20/07/2011), the Kong Ko Bao, the Diocesan Audio-Visual Center, the Social Communications Office, the Catholic Center in Hong Kong, the Catholic Truth Society, the Commission for the Pastoral Care of Marriage and Family, the Biblical Franciscan Institute ....
