Bangalore (Agenzia Fides) - They have finished the Year of Youth praying and committing themselves to "building a better world" and said they are ready for "World Youth Day" (WYD) in Madrid, which will be attended by a delegation of young Indians and that will be followed in real time, through mass media and new technologies, by thousands of young people who will remain at home. In this way, over 5,000 young Catholics of the Archdiocese of Bangalore in India concluded on Sunday, July 17 their special meeting, the final stage of a year dedicated to the youth of the local Church. As reported by the Church of Bangalore to Fides, the youth from all parishes, associations, movements, seminarians and young novices from religious orders poured into the city, led by Archbishop Bernard Moras. The initiative, organized thanks to the '"Indian Catholic Youth Movement" was centered on the theme "Arise and shine for a better world".
As explained in one message sent to Fides, the Archbishop said: "Young people are the hope of the Church and the Church is interested in their well-being and their spiritual and global growth". "Jesus is our best model: strive to follow him", urged the Archbishop addressing the audience. The Year of the Youth, has just finished, and has created greater awareness among young people and adults, raising awareness about the importance of youth in the life of the Church and in society: "Young people bring new energy and creativity, and the promise of a better world" , underline the leaders of the youth Pastoral in Bangalore. Also because in India there is a high percentage of young people in society and, according to forecasts, by 2020 the average age of the population in India will be between 20 and 30. So it is crucial, they stressed in the meeting, to invest in youth, "in order to bring out their potential, for the good of the whole nation". (PA) (Agenzia Fides 19/07/2011)
