ASIA/HONG KONG-The "Project of the Builders of Peace" celebrates 25 years of path for peace

Friday, 24 June 2011

Hong Kong (Agenzia Fides) - The path of 25 years of commitment to peace, the reading of the letter of encouragement of Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta, the testimony of the vocations awakened by the commitment to peace have marked the celebration of 25th anniversary of "Project of the Builders of Peace" of the diocese of Hong Kong, held on June 19. According to reports from the Kong Ko Bao (the Chinese version of the diocesan bulletin), Mgr. Dominic Chang, the diocesan Vicar and President of the Preparatory Commission of the "Project", has retraced the history and the path of peace in the last 25 years, and also the impact on the lives of each of the members of this project, especially those who, thanks to this participation, have been able to discern and respond to God's call.
In 1986, when the International Year of Peace was celebrated, the diocese of Hong Kong felt the urgency of the commitment to peace and social commitment of the faithful for this purpose. Therefore I invited young people to experience the local life in India, the Philippines, Malaysia, South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Shanghai and even in the same territory of Hong Kong, thereby creating the "Project of the builders of Peace". In that same year, the diocese also gave 74 "Builders of Peace" the official "mandate", also encouraging the local faithful to maximize efforts to building peace together. The initiative also had the support of Mother Teresa of Calcutta, who, in a letter written by herself, reminded the young that "every little thing you did for the younger ones, was done to Jesus".
