ASIA/TAIWAN-The Bishop of Tai Chung will celebrate Mass at the peak of the highest mountain in Taiwan to raise money for the poor in Swaziland

Tai Chung (Fides Service) – Welcoming the invitation of the American foundation "Heart for Africa," His Exc. Mgr. Martin Su Yao-Wen, Bishop of the diocese of Tai Chung, will celebrate Mass at the peak of the highest mountain in Taiwan , which he will reach together with a group of volunteers to collect funds to assist the poor in Swaziland. According to information received by Fides, Mgr. Martin Su, accompanied by about twenty volunteers from Taiwan (priests, religious, university and high school students, ambassadors, business men...) will start to climb Mount Yu, 3,592 meters high, on June 21. The arrival at the mountain peak is expected around 4 am on June 22, the time when the sun rises. At that time Mgr. Su will celebrate Mass where they will pray especially for the poor in Swaziland. The initiative is part of the international campaign to collect funds called "Summit 4 Hope 2011", which will be held from June 20 to 25, sponsored by "Heart for Africa", a charitable non-profit organization to help orphans and the most vulnerable children in the African continent. According to the organization, 400 volunteers from Canada, Taiwan and the United States will be divided into 8 groups to climb 8 of the highest mountains, which are in Canada, Tanzania, Swaziland and Taiwan. The goal is to raise $ 150,000 for the poor in Swaziland. In addition to Mgr. Su, the Taiwan team also includes Mgr. Paul Russell, Counsellor, Chargé d'Affaires to the Holy See, Ambassador of Swaziland in Taiwan, Njabuliso Gwebu, the Ambassador of Guatemala in Taiwan, Kivan Espinoza Farfan and other personalities.
