AMERICA/UNITED STATES - At the UN headquarters: a meeting with 500 young people in sight of the WYD in Madrid

New York (Agenzia Fides) - The Permanent Observer Mission of the Holy See at the United Nations, together with the Universal Youth Parliament and the International Youth Idente, on June 3 realized a meeting at the UN Headquarters, in New York in preparation for the World Youth Day in Madrid. 500 young people between 16 and 30 years of age were invited, they had the opportunity to talk about some of the crucial issues of the moment, including the need to protect and promote human life at every stage. During the event, the winners of the "Fernando Rielo for Youth" were announced, which was assigned to the work on the defense of life and on the role of the youth as beacons of culture and hope in a world threatened by the culture of death. The award will offer the winners the opportunity to participate in the WYD in Madrid and will cover all the costs of travel and accommodation. Among those present at the meeting, Archbishop Francis Assisi Chullikatt, Permanent Observer of the Holy See, and some diplomats. The Puerto Rican singer Jose Feliciano dialogued with young people about the difficulties of life and ability to overcome them, and then concluded the meeting with one of his songs.
The Idente Youth Foundation is a nonprofit organization founded by the Spaniard Fernando Rielo (1923-2004) in 1975, which aims to combine the highest moral ideals and culture, young people from different countries, races and religious beliefs, for the training of a Universal Youth Parliament. Fernando Rielo was a mystical poet, philosopher, metaphysician, and author of numerous books, he also founded the Religious Institute of the Missionaries Identes that has 70 centers in over 25 countries.
