Hong Kong (Agenzia Fides) – His Exc. Mgr. John Tong, Bishop of the Diocese of Hong Kong, thanked the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate (OMI) for the great contribution to the religious and missionary growth throughout the country, during the celebration for the 150th anniversary of the death of their founder, St. Eugene de Mazenod. According to reports from the Kong Ko Bao (the Chinese version of the diocesan bulletin), during the celebration held on May 15, Mgr. Tong underlined the three "miracles" achieved by the Oblates and St.Eugene, "the evangelizing flame, the promotion of vocations, the attention towards the foreign faithful. "He then encouraged the missionaries to continue to walk in the founder`s footsteps, for an even better cooperation between the religious congregation and the diocese of Hong Kong.
The Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate arrived in Hong Kong in 1966. During these 45 years they have served the poor, prisoners, the marginalized, working in the field of education with three schools. According to the missionaries, "through service to the poor that is our charisma, people get to know Christ and we invite people to imitate him. This also helps the volunteers to strengthen their faith and respond to their vocation. "(NZ) (Agenzia Fides 05/27/2011)
