ASIA/INDIA-New teaching center on media for tribal youths

Ranchi (Agenzia Fides) - The Lievens' Institute of Film and Electronic Media (LIFE), a new center of the Society of Jesus has recently been inaugurated in Ranchi, capital of Jharkhand, with the aim to give young people of the tribal population skills to become professionals in the media field with an ethical vision, so as to allow the voice of their tribes to be heard on a national and international level. According to information sent to Fides by the General Curia of the Jesuits, during the inauguration ceremony Fr. Francis Kurien, Provincial Superior of Hazaribagh, expressed hope that the students of the center become communication operators, because "today means of communication do not provide much information about what is happening in Jharkhand”. The Provincial Superior of Ranchi, Fr. Xavier Soreng, who was also present at the ceremony, blessing the building defined it as "a new chapter in the life of Jharkhand and a gift to the people of the Provinces of central India to the tribal population of the region. " The center will offer courses in film and television production. At the end of their studies students receive a diploma from the "Xavier Institute of Communication" in Mumbai on the basis of an agreement already signed.
