Santo Domingo (Agenzia Fides) - Archbishop of Santo Domingo, Cardinal Nicolas de Jesus Lopez Rodriguez, warned about the "seriousness and complexity" in which violence is manifested today in Dominican society and urged the authorities to clarify as soon as possible the murder of a young dentist, who was killed by a stranger while he was returning home, in the area of Mirador Sur, in the capital. "There are cases that are repeated and deeply influence the national conscience, and must in no way go unpunished, " the Cardinal said, pointing at the same time that "violence is a harsh reality that is felt in all environments, even though many do not want to recognize the seriousness of this evil. " Corruption is also a cruel form of violence that affects the development of the poor, and society and the government have an obligation to eliminate it.
The Cardinal spoke after a Mass celebrated in the Cathedral on the occasion of Nurses Day, which is celebrated on May 12 of each year in the Dominican Republic. In his homily he stressed the mission and gratitude to those who are engaged in this service.
"I see and I think there are unmistakable signs of serious violence that must be studied and faced with effective methods, " said the Archbishop of Santo Domingo, according to the note received by Fides. Among the recent criminal events, there is the murder of this young dentist, "a fact that, regardless of the reason for interpreting it, it is disgusting because there is no justification for ending the life of a person" said Cardinal Lopez Rodriguez, inviting to seriously study the causes of this violence that envelops everybody and does not seem to stop.
