Hong Kong (Agenzia Fides) - Continue the Christian formation, share one's faith with others, participate actively in community life: are the main commitments that Bishop John Tong, Bishop of the Diocese of Hong Kong, pointed out during the Welcome meeting to the newly baptized at Easter in the diocese, who received the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist. According to reports from the Kong Ko Bao (the Chinese version of the diocesan bulletin), about 2,300 new believers, along with their catechists, attended the solemn meeting, also characterized by a sincere dialogue that took place on May 10 at the stadium in Hong Kong, in the presence of Bishop Tong, all three diocesan Vicars and the Chancellor. Bishop Tong recalled his letter to families last Christmas, where he stressed the theme of evangelization, and today he has still encouraged everyone "to answer the call of evangelization and the deepening of faith." He then urged the newly baptized to fulfill their vocation through charity, conversion and promoting an approach to the Lord on behalf of other people.
The representatives of the newly baptized thanked the catechists, sharing their Christian experience: "We are aware that this is only the beginning, that the first goal has been reached. We still need to deepen faith and live the Christian faith. " In the end , they recited together the prayer for the Year of the Laity to "sanctify oneself, sanctify others and transform the world."
The Association of Catholic Laity in Hong Kong collaborated in fulfilling this meeting which also saw an exhibition of a dozen diocesan organizations which submitted their work to continue in the formation of faith. (NZ) (Agenzia Fides 13/05/2011)
