Hong Kong (Agenzia Fides) - Fr. Dominique Mukonda, of the missionaries of Scheut (CICM, the Congregation of the Immaculate Heart of Mary), of Congolese origin, arrived in Hong Kong three years ago, was ordained priest on April 30 by Bishop John Tong, ordinary of the Diocese of Hong Kong. According to reports from the Kong Ko Bao (the Chinese version of the diocesan bulletin), Mgr.Tong encouraged the new missionary priest to engage in the evangelization of the territory in front of about 400 people. Father J.S. Mbuela Pfuti, regional superior of CICM in Hong Kong, also from Congo, said: "For Africans, each new member who joins the family is a joy. I hope that Fr. Mukonda can be useful to the Diocese of Hong Kong. " In these years, "I participated in four ordinations and each time it is a joy for me." Then he took the opportunity to encourage young people to respond to the call. The newly appointed priest thanked all those who helped his religious vocation and mission, sharing the experience of faith, "I am shy and the Chinese language is very difficult, only faith allowed me to overcome all the difficulties, becoming the first Congolese priest ordained in Hong Kong. "
The parishioners of the parish where the new priest already dedicates time for pastoral care, are enthusiastic about their African priest: "he takes part in every meeting of the parish and of the Association of St. Vincent de Paul, where he is the spiritual director, without considering some important and others less, he is a diligent young man, we are glad about his ordination. "
Fr. Dominique Mukonda was born in Congo 30 years ago. After entering as one of the missionaries of Scheut he studied theology in Cameroon, then he was sent to Hong Kong in 2008. Here he studied the Chinese language at the Chinese University, then served in the parish of S. Irenaeus and the parish of Our Lady. (NZ) (Agenzia Fides 05/07/2011)
