Bujumbura (Agenzia Fides) - On the occasion of the beatification of Pope John Paul II, the Bishops of Burundi have issued a message that explains the significance of the event. In the text, sent to Fides, the Bishops point out the salient aspects of the message of John Paul II starting from the request "Do not be afraid, open the doors to Christ!". They also recall the missionary efforts of John Paul II, especially through his pastoral visits around the world (he visited Burundi in 1990), his particular closeness to young people and his pastoral concern towards priests, in addition to his commitment to promote respect for human rights and peace.
