Saturday, 30 April 2011

Bogota (Agenzia Fides) - In the south of the colombian capital of Bogota, in the district of Yomasa, is the parish of St. Athanasius which is also a Marian Sanctuary, the only one in Colombia dedicated to Our Lady of Czestochowa, patroness of Poland. On the occasion of the beatification of Pope John Paul II and the liturgical feast of St. Athanasius, Sunday, 1 May, the Archbishop of Bogota, Archbishop Jesus Ruben Salazar Gomez, will preside over a solemn Mass in spiritual communion with Rome, where Pope Benedict XVI will preside over the rite of beatification. According to information sent by the Colombian Sanctuary to Fides, the celebration on Sunday, May 1, has three motivations: the beatification of John Paul II, the homage to Our Lady of Czestochowa, the feast of St. Athanasius, which recurs on the following liturgical day, May 2.
