Tegucigalpa (Agenzia Fides) - Only if the people are united in faith, love and hope, they will be able to deal with "the heavy cross of unemployment, violence, lack of justice, impunity and corruption": This is what was said by the Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Tegucigalpa, the capital of Honduras, Bishop Juan José Pineda, during the Mass celebrated on Easter Sunday. The Auxiliary Bishop presided over the celebration of Good Friday and Easter Sunday in the absence of the Archbishop, Cardinal Oscar Andrés Rodríguez Maradiaga, who left for the Vatican where he will attend the beatification of Pope John Paul II, on 1 May. On Good Friday, Bishop Pineda recalled all the problems and the burdens in Honduras and for the Honduran people, such as social injustice, marginalization, lack of respect for life, impunity, lack of solidarity, corruption, lack of justice or the application of an unfair justice.
In his Easter message, Bishop Pineda invited the faithful to witness that God exists with words, with actions, with their presence: "Now is the time of joy, because Christ is alive and we must live with the hope of eternal life and witness the resurrection”. Bishop Pineda complained that "there is a world that no longer knows how to invent new ways of death, infidelity, poverty, pain and violence. But we cannot stay here to celebrate and say alleluia, thank God, Jesus Christ is risen. We must go beyond those doors and be witnesses of life”.
One of the allies to build a more cohesive and correct society is education, this is why the Bishop underlined: "Our country needs to be educated on values and principles, it is no secret that we are a country that needs education for children and young people”. Regarding the children, Bishop Pineda mentioned problems such as difficulty of access to food and health, and neglection on behalf of parents. (CE) (Agenzia Fides 28/04/2011)
