AMERICA/BRAZIL - Commitment to the promotion of life and for the response to the health needs of the people of “Vila Misionaria”

São Paulo (Agenzia Fides) – “In recent months life has been a little more demanding than usual,” says Sister Annamaria Fornasiero, of the Missionaries of the Immaculate (PIME), to Fides, regarding her lengthy services at the CENFIRC (Irmã Rita Cavenaghi Formation Centre), which is in the southern outskirts of the city of São Paulo in Brazil (see Fides 9/01/2010). “We started school in February and for most of the small children of two and three years it is the first time they have felt the impact of being separated from their mothers and the family environment,” continues the missionary listing the work they are involved in at this time: “the placement of children in classes, forming some new teachers and officials, changing pedagogical coordinators, dealing with the recent natural disasters.
After the emergency phase, Sister Annamaria will resume regular visits to families where there are sick people, which she considers particularly important for her mission, since the state provides few health services. “The small group of the pastoral ministry for health at the St Francis Xavier Parish,” explains the religious, “has the ideal of collaborating with anyone who is committed to the promotion of life. Its members currently have been chosen for the management board of the only clinic of 'Vila Missionária’, the municipal Government, and here they are able to present the people's health needs. The Council, which meets once a month, is formed by representatives of doctors, nurses and administrative staff of the surgery, as well as a handful of people who live in the area.” (AF/AP) (11/4/2011 Agenzia Fides)
