Saturday, 12 March 2011

Callao (Agenzia Fides) – It was three days of hard work, from 3 to 5 March, for representatives from the diocesan community of Callao who met for the IX Pastoral Assembly convened by Bishop Miguel Irizar. In the statement sent to Fides, it was reported that Mr Eduardo Pena, a professional from CELAM, led the three day Assembly. Mr Pena, had already collaborated on prior occasions in pastoral plan development for the diocese. The main theme of the Assembly was: “Promoting the pastoral conversion of the diocesan Church for the Continental Mission, in the light of Aparecida”. More than 400 attended the Assembly, among them priests, sisters, members of parish councils and diocesan commissions. It was held at the Sanctuary of the Virgin of “Carmen de la Legua”.
Bishop Miguel Irizar presented on the theme: “The great challenge of the Continental Mission for our particular Church”. Mr Pena, guided the processes for the Assembly, between individual and group work.
“It gives me joy, how enthusiastic the laity of Callao have been about the Mission School in the last four years,” said Bishop Irizar. “Now there are about 2,000 missionaries in our diocese and they are already at work on the streets of Callao (see Fides 25/08/2010 and 14/01/2010). With this meeting we hope to show that the parish community needs to get involved in mission work and that the movements need to unite in this commitment.”
On the third and final day of the Assembly, the Apostolic Nuncio, Mons. Bruno Musarò, concelebrated Mass with the Bishop of Callao, his vicars and diocesan priests. Mons. Musarò expressed his joy and satisfaction at the progress made in pastoral care by the Diocese of Callao and for the uptake of the call to mission in the document of Aparecida.
