Saturday, 12 March 2011

Hong Kong (Agenzia Fides) – The first meeting of catechumens with Godparents was held on 6 March and the second on Sunday, 13 March, organised by the Diocesan Commission for Liturgy of the Diocese of Hong Kong. The aim is help the catechumens understand the profound significance of the Sacrament of Baptism, accompanied by their Godparents, on their joint spiritual journey towards Easter. According to Kong Ko Bao (the diocesan bulletin in Chinese), this year there will be about 3,400 catchumens who will receive the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and First Communion at Easter. Fr Giovanni Giampietro, P.I.M.E., led the meeting on 6 March, explaining two important themes: the commitments of Baptism and the celebration of the Sacrament. During the meeting he urged the catechumens to always remember the commitments of Baptism they made in front of the Lord: “The Church is a sign of the presence of God. Therefore, every one of us are a part of this sign, assuming the responsibility of being a good Catholic and maintaining an ongoing formation.” (NZ) (Agenzia Fides 12/03/2011)
