AMERICA/PERU - Card. Cipriani urges priests to not “remain silent” in difficult times

Monday, 7 March 2011

Lima (Agenzia Fides) – Cardinal Luis Cipriani, Archbishop of Lima, confirmed that Pastors must base their work on a solid rock: the Word of God, the Commandments, the Sacraments and social doctrine. “The parish priest is the pastor, the Bishop is the Pastor, the priest is the pastor, all in different ways. It is because of this that Jesus tells us that the pastor must build his family, his parish, his episcopal work on a rock, that is the Word of God,” he said during his homily at Mass on Sunday.
According to the note sent to Fides by the Archdiocese of Lima, the Cardinal also called the politicians to be clear in their proposals, and not to take on a Catholic identity and then defend abortion. “How is not important for the government of a country (with a Catholic majority) to speak of respect for the doctrine of faith,” said Card. Cipriani. (CE) (Agenzia Fides, 07/03/2011)
