AMERICA/COLOMBIA - National plan prepared for youth ministry with a missionary direction

Thursday, 24 February 2011

Bogotà (Agenzia Fides) – With the approval of a national plan with a missionary approach, the national meeting of the diocesan youth ministry delegates concluded. The meeting in Bogotà from 15 to 18 February, had three main themes: the need to form diocesan managers and councillors; the reorganisation of the national team of youth ministers; and the organisation of the 12th meeting of youth ministers from the Andina region to be held in Bucaramanga at the end of March.
According to information gathered by Fides, the Director of the Department for Youth of the Colombian Episcopal Conference (CEC), Fr Roberto Arenas, explained that this national plan is a development program for five years, entitled “Disciples and missionaries committed with Love and Life”. The plan can be broken down into 14 working areas ready now for the youth pastoral care delegates to begin immediately. As emphasised by Fr Arenas, it is believed that in each of the jurisdictions they can work on between three and five areas. Another of the conclusions of this meeting, attended by 87 youth ministry delegates from across the country, was to encourage a greater link between youth ministry and pastoral care of childhood, family, vocations and education.
