ASIA/HONG KONG - New information technology promotes evangelisation and information on the life of the Church

Hong Kong (Agenzia Fides) – The Hong Kong Diocesan Audio-Visual Centre and the faithful of Hong Kong have launched the “Mobile Web Apps” and “Liturgypedia” in version iPhone/iPod to promote formation and information on the Church, thereby responding to the urgency to evangelise. This is according to 'Kong Ko Bao' (the diocesan bulletin in Chinese), in the Year for the Laity, which the Diocese of Hong Kong which is being lived out intensely in the Diocese of Hong Kong, and in contemporary society, characterised by overly-advanced technology and the daily over-commitment that prevents people, especially young people, from pausing to get closer to God and the Church. The Catholic community thus intends to give an adequate response to the call to evangelise and to help the faithful live out their faith daily in the social context in which they live. The Audiovisual Centre of the Diocese of Hong Kong has created “Mobile Web Apps” (www.hkdavc.com) to provide iPhone and Palm Android users, the ability to follow the Gospel of the day (video and audio) and to have all the information on the schedules and main activities of the diocese.... The Catholic engineer Thomas Luk has also created “Liturgypedia” for both iPhone/iPod, which publishes the liturgical calendar, prayers, parish and diocese information, and celebrations of the Year for the Laity....
