ASIA/HONG KONG - Enthusiasm for the pilgrimage of relics of the parents of St Teresa of Lisieux: pray together for the family and for vocations

Saturday, 19 February 2011

Hong Kong (Agenzia Fides) – The “Pilgrimage in honour of the Blesseds Louis and Marie Zelie Guerin Martin” – the pilgrimage of the relics of the parents of St Teresa of the Infant Jesus, beatified in Lisieux on 19 October 2008 – is happening zealously throughout the parishes in Hong Kong and also among the Catholic families of the parishes, in celebration of the Year for the Laity. The pilgrimage is marked by the faithful's devotion and intense prayer, gathering around the relics.
According to reports from Kong Ko Bao (the Chinese version of the diocesan bulletin), since the beginning of the year, each month two parishes in the diocese host the relics of the Blesseds to give parishioners the opportunity to pay tribute to them and to reflect on the theme of Year for the Laity: “The Call, Communion, Mission”. After this initial period, the pastors said they were very satisfied and also a little surprised by the enthusiasm of the faithful. They said that “many Catholic families are not in the habit of praying together. The devotion to the relics of the Blesseds Louis and Marie Zelie Guerin Martin, who gave an excellent example, also provided the opportunity for families to pray together and grow together in faith.” A woman who took part in the pilgrimage, said: “I did not know that even lay people can be Blesseds or Saints. Their example has taught me what it means to become holy in everyday life.” (NZ) (Agenzia Fides 19/02/2011)
