ASIA/HONG KONG - A site dedicated to historic buildings recounts 170 years of missionary history within the diocese

Hong Kong (Agenzia Fides) – To use the most advanced technology and new media to build an information archive on historical diocesan buildings; to realise the mission of evangelisation through this web platform: these are the goals proposed on the site for historical diocesan buildings of Hong Kong, on-line since June. During the presentation of the site, held in late January, Mons. Dominic Chan, Vicar General of the diocese, confirmed the positive experience of these months of trial. According to reports from Kong Ko Bao (the Chinese version of the diocesan bulletin), for the moment the site, which will recount 170 years of missionary history in Hong Kong through the historic buildings, will show the Cathedral dedicated to the Immaculate Conception, founded in 1888, that of the parish of St Joseph and the parish dedicated to Our Lady of Fatima. Therefore Mons. Chan invited all the faithful to make their own contribution to enrich the site: “the elderly can offer their testimony, young people can offer their technological abilities. In the future we may also publish the English version.” However, this site “does not replace in any way the parish website,” said Mons. Chan. It is another way to remember the missionaries, priests and faithful who have dedicated their lives to the Church in Hong Kong. (NZ) (Agenzia Fides 17/02/2011)
