Thursday, 3 February 2011

Brasilia-Fortaleza (Agenzia Fides) – February is a summer month in Brazil, and also a month dedicated to the initiative of preparation and formation of many Catholic groups. The national headquarters of the Pontifical Missionary Societies (PMS) in Brazil, for example, from 3-6 February, has organized the 3rd national meeting of Coordinators of Youth Missionaries. The guiding theme of the meeting is “The ongoing formation of Youth Missionaries – Youth Missionary Disciples of Jesus”. According to information sent to Fides, the programme consists of moments of spirituality and missionary formation, presentation of the ways and the work carried out by Youth Missionaries in every state, an evaluation of the meetings and materials used by youth missionaries, and the activities planned by the national secretary. The first National CD by the Youth Missionaries will also be presented, the songs on which were sent in by youth all over the Country. The meeting may be followed on the Youth Missionary internet blog.
Along the same lines, the Youth Missionaries of Fortaleza have planned a course in the area of the School for the missionary formation of youth in the Archdiocese, which begins on 20 February. The participants are young men and women who want to commit themselves to pastoral care work. The meetings will be held in the third Sunday of every month, until November. The goal of the school , which opened last year, is to form youth as leaders and directors of missionary groups in parishes, explained Cleyton Paes, Archdiocese coordinator for Youth Missionaries in Fortaleza. During the course of the meetings themes such as “the missionary spirit”, “ecology and mission”, “campaign of brotherhood” and “youth missions” will be addressed. Time will also be spent putting the theory into practice. In this way, for example, the youth should be ready to participate in the “youth mission”, set down for the missionary week in the archdiocese, in July. (CE) (Agenzia Fides, 03/02/2011)
