Friday, 21 January 2011

Tai Pei (Agenzia Fides) – The Sisters of St Paul De Chartres SPC celebrated 50 years of mission on the Island of Taiwan renewing their commitment and missionary spirit. On the occasion, four Taiwanese sisters and two directors of St Paul's Hospital were awarded by local authorities for their generous contribution to Taiwanese society, especially in social work and health services.
To celebrate this significant anniversary, St Paul's hospital organized a missionary exhibition showing the hospital services and also recalling the progress in medicine in Taiwan. The sisters, in 50 years, have intensified their service of Christian love with visits and free medical assistance and shared in all the life sufferings and joys of the local population.
The sisters presented the missionary journey made over half a century: the first sisters arrived from Hong Kong in 1960, at the invitation of Msgr. Secondino Petronio Lacchio OFM. From then until now, 47 sisters have come to Taiwan from Hong Kong, Vietnam, South Korea and Europe, working always to serve the poor and proclaim the Gospel. They currently work in the Health Care Centre for indigenous women and girls in the hospital, managed by the Delegation of the Holy See in Taipei in a women's college.
