Tuesday, 18 January 2011

Kaohsiung (Agenzia Fides) – Today, 18 January, even the diocese of Kaohsiung in Taiwan begins a Week of prayer for the unity of Christians in communion with the universal Church. Archbishop Peter Liu of Kaohsiung, has invited all the deaneries, parishes and the faithful to actively participate in the Week. According to information sent to Fides, on 22 January, a “Meeting of Prayer of Christian thanksgiving” will take place, which will see the Catholic Church unite with the local protestant population, on the theme for this year: “United in the Teaching of the Apostles, in Communion, in the Breaking of Bread and in Prayer” (cf. Acts 2:42). Archbishop Liu urged the deaneries to enrich celebrations this week with readings from Sacred Scripture, homilies and prayer indicated by the Regional Episcopal Conference of Taiwan based on the theme of Christian unity. They may also “invite communities of other Christian faiths to pray, speak and exchange opinions on unity, towards a future of collaboration in the area of evangelisation”. Finally Archbishop Peter Liu invites all to make an “eloquent witness” to Christian unity. (NZ) (Agenzia Fides 18/01/2011)
