ASIA/TAIWAN - “Modern Challenges for the Indigenous Church in Taiwan”: environment and mass media

Saturday, 6 November 2010

Tai Pei (Agenzia Fides) – As Fides learns from the Commission for the Pastoral Care of Indigenous Peoples of Taiwan, the VI Pastoral Congress of Indigenous Peoples, held October 21 to 23, had the theme "Modern Challenges for the Indigenous Church in Taiwan - Protection of the environment and use of instruments of social communication." As there have been many natural disasters that the island of Taiwan has had to suffer in recent years, particularly in the area where the indigenous population is concentrated, the Commission wants people to reflect on the commitment of the Church with regard to this situation. The Pastoral Congress of Indigenous Peoples is held every two years on specific topics that correspond to the most pressing social and ecclesial demands. Among the participants are priests, religious, lay members of the local Pontifical Mission Societies, and those engaged in pastoral work with the indigenous. (NZ) (Agenzia Fides 06/11/2010)
