ASIA/HONG KONG - Reinforce lay formation during diocesan Year for the Laity

Hong Kong (Agenzia Fides) – Enhancing the formation of the laity during the diocesan Year for the Laity so they can better contribute to the life of the Church: this is the invitation launched by Msgr. Dominic Chang, vicar general of the Diocese of Hong Kong and Chairman of the Diocesan Fund for the Formation of the Laity, in the allocation of funds, which took place Sunday, October 31. According to reports from the Kong Ko Bao (the Chinese version of the diocesan bulletin), this year the funds amounted to HK $500,000 (equivalent to approximately 30,000 Euro) and Diocesan Fund for the Formation of the Laity has received 115 applications and approved 89 scholarships. The lay faithful who have received the scholarship will study Scripture, theology, church music, religious studies, pastoral care etc.. In light of the the Year for the Laity, the diocese has partially modified the procedure for distributing the funds. In the future, they will be allocated according to the pastoral needs of the diocese and the situation of lay members with economic trouble will also be taken into greater account.
