Thursday, 28 October 2010

Panama City (Agenzia Fides) – Panama City is holding the Fifth Congress on prison ministry, with the participation of Church authorities and members of the government. Opened by the Panamanian Bishops' Conference (CEP) on October 22, the Congress will end on November 1 and will be attended by delegations from all the dioceses in the country. The note sent to Fides reports the thoughts of the President of the CEP Prison Ministry, Bishop Pablo Varela, who says that the pastoral ministry, which includes prison ministry, is the action of the merciful love of God in the socio-political and economic areas, with a particular option for the poor. He also mentioned that the purpose of this section of the social ministry, namely, prison ministry, is to create a national network of prison pastoral workers, said Bishop Varela. Everything regarding the pastoral planning is done in the context of the Continental Mission. (CE) (Agenzia Fides 28/10/2010)
