Monday, 18 October 2010

Hong Kong (Agenzia Fides) – "We give them hope": with these words Bishop John Tong, Bishop of Hong Kong, opened his letter to the entire diocese calling for a generous donation in the annual collection of Caritas. According to reports from the Kong Ko Bao (the Chinese version of the diocesan bulletin), the diocese has been preparing for some time for the annual collection of funds for Caritas. In his letter, Bishop Tong recalls the 50 years of Caritas' many social, educational, and health services, especially for those who are lonely, the elderly, the sick, and all vulnerable groups. Thanks to the generosity of all concerned, "Caritas has been able to do all this," said the bishop.
In addition to the letter of Bishop Tong, President of Caritas and Vicar of the Diocese, Msgr. Michael Yeung Ming Cheung, along with Vice-President Fr. Joseph Yim Tak Lung, and the Chairman of the Department, are undertaking the visit to the parishes to raise awareness among the faithful regarding this commitment and service of Caritas, urging parishioners to volunteer with them. Even parochial schools are getting involved, in view of the Caritas collection in November, promoting a greater participation among young people, to educate them in a strong sense of charity towards the weak and the significance of belonging to a community.
