Hong Kong (Agenzia Fides) – The Central Council of Hong Kong Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SSVP) aims to boost its mission of charity with a specific goal. In honor of their 150th anniversary of foundation, they hope to increase their number by 10 in Hong Kong over the next three years, bringing the total number from 28 to 38, especially during the next year, when the diocese will celebrate the Year of the Laity. According to reports from the Kong Ko Bao (the Chinese version of the diocesan bulletin), during the annual meeting of the Central Council of Hong Kong, held recently in the Parish of St. Benedict, both president and spiritual director (Vicar of the Diocese Msgr. Dominic Chan), expressed their support for this extension of the Society in Hong Kong, inviting everyone to a greater commitment to charity.
In the account of the work done during the past year, there was special mention of the aid given to Indonesian refugees and domestic carers, under the guidance of Bishop John Tong, Bishop of Hong Kong. In addition, members of the Society of St. Vincenzo de Paoli are increasingly involved in the parishes. The President said he hoped that when, after three years, the Society celebrates its 150th anniversary of foundation, it will have increased by 10. The Central Council of Hong Kong Society of St. Vincent de Paul has been active in Hong Kong since 1863 and has over 400 local members, all very engaged in charitable work, especially towards the poor.
