Friday, 8 October 2010

Hong Kong (Agenzia Fides) – Sacred music and prayer are being used to deepen the faith and proclaim the Gospel by the laity and lay groups of Hong Kong, in order to prepare themselves enthusiastically for the Year of the Laity, organized by the Diocese of Hong Kong in 2011. According to reports from the Kong Ko Bao (the Chinese version of the diocesan bulletin), the "Sacred Music Workshop" held in January 2010 launched the "Prayer With Sacred Hymns," Since last September, the faithful have been invited to reflect on and share their faith, every weekend attending a mini-concert of sacred music. According to the 14 members of this small group, "our path towards the Year of the Laity is done accompanied by the notes of sacred music."
Another group active in this field is “Touch,” made up of young lay people who for 8 years have been using sacred music as a tool to deepen in their relationship with God and to draw the strength needed to evangelize from prayer. Since 2006, the group has organized a concert every Saturday designed to introduce participants to prayer. They started with 10 people and today they are a group of 60. In light of the upcoming Year of the Laity, they have prepared a concert for young people in particular to accompany them on their preparatory journey towards 2011. This group has asked the diocese to grant them the title of lay Catholic association, in order to better serve the mission of evangelization and the growth of faith life through music.
