AMERICA/COLOMBIA - Colombian Red Cross provides aid to 800,000 Haitian refugees

Bogota (Agenzia Fides) – Colombia's Red Cross has delivered aid to around 800,000 Haitians affected by the earthquake in January, which left over 200,000 dead and wounded, the news was released by the humanitarian organization itself in Bogota. In a report issued yesterday in Bogota, on the work done in that country, the Red Cross said that after a nearly eight-month-long humanitarian mission, 2,557 tons of food have been sent to Port-au-Prince.
The hospital in Cabaret and the local public school have also been rebuilt, 27,737 patients have been assisted, and help for the repatriation was offered to at least 63 people. The Colombian Red Cross reported that after the earthquake,10,000 temporary shelters were established in Haiti, 200 of them with their own resources. The assistance included logistical reinforcement of the Red Cross in Haiti, with a mobile telecommunications unit, units for water transport, and trucks.
On January 12, 2010, a devastating earthquake struck Haiti and left over 200,000 dead and thousands injured and homeless, many of them in Port-au-Prince where dozens of buildings collapsed. (CE) (Agenzia Fides 17/09/2010)
