San Jose del Amazonas (Agenzia Fides) – On the occasion of the regional and municipal elections in Peru on October 3, the Apostolic Vicar of San José de Amazonas, Bishop Alberto Campos Hernández, OFM, has asked all the candidates to carefully examine the people's needs, as "we need authorities who are identified with the needs of the people, to meet their expectations."
The bishop launched this appeal in a pastoral letter, a copy of which was sent to Fides, addressed to all the faithful of his ecclesiastical district, located in the Peruvian Amazon. In his exhortation, Bishop Campos called for honesty and transparency from all the candidates, because "we need honest authorities that will not allow corruption." Likewise, he also asked that clear, feasible proposals be made in the various departments of public administration, so as to persevere in the strong desire to achieve what is promised.
"In light of these guidelines, I ask that voters vote responsibly, freely, and consciously, aware of the reality in which we live in the Amazon, aware of the proposals of the candidates, their ethics, the quality of members on their lists, their ability to meet the needs that exist, and then implement a full progress considering not only economic progress, but a comprehensive development," Bishop Campos said.
