ASIA/HONG KONG - Education Day: asking parents and teachers to be “like the Good Shepherd”

Friday, 10 September 2010

Hong Kong (Agenzia Fides) – “I know my sheep and my sheep know me,” (Jn 10, 14) is the theme of Education Day in the Diocese of Hong Kong, to be celebrated September 26. According to reports from the Kong Ko Bao (the Chinese version of the diocesan bulletin), the Education Day wants to encourage parents and teachers to be "like the Good Shepherd, to help and accompany the growth of the youth. All parishes are invited to the Mass to be celebrated on this day. In addition, the diocese asks teachers to identify themselves more with the Good Shepherd, taking on their mission to communicate Gospel values, ethics, and religious morality. Parents need to know and respect the talents and skills of their children by listening, helping, and protecting them, like a good shepherd. Students and young people of today must appreciate and show gratitude for the dedication of parents and teachers. Moreover, the good shepherd must always await and welcome the lost sheep." Today, thanks to Facebook, blogs, and Twitter ... educators have many opportunities to help young people meet the challenges of our times, using their own language. (NZ) (Agenzia Fides 09/10/2010)
