AMERICA/PERU - Carmelite Missionaries celebrate 100th anniversary in Latin America

Lima (Agenzia Fides) – The Religious Congregation of Carmelite Missionaries is celebrating the 100th anniversary of its presence in Latin America. Thus, they have held their first Missionary Encounter of the “Province of Santa Rosa de Lima,” in the area of Quellouno, in the Province of La Convención, Cuzco. This event was attended by religious and laity of the Congregation of the Carmelite Missionaries from Peru and Bolivia.
Sister Violeta Muñoz Zegarra, Superior of the Carmelite Missionary Community in Cuzco, said in a statement sent to Fides that in July, during the feast of the Virgen del Carmen, particular emphasis was given to the celebration of 100 years of presence in America, with various activities such as a rally in the Plaza de Armas, the Triduum in the Parish of San Blas, a play, and a procession. She also announced that on September 10, there will be an evening of prayer and celebration with the participation of the Superiors of all the communities in the Province of St. Rose of Lima, from Peru and Bolivia.
