AMERICA/PERU - “Operation Contact” with over 500 missionaries working in the Diocese of Callao

Wednesday, 25 August 2010

Callao (Agenzia Fides) – "Operation Contact" has begun in the area of La Perla, in the Diocese of Callao, in Peru.
In Callao, "Operation Contact" is a celebration of the Catholic community of "Communion and Evangelization," with the participation of all the missionaries of the four deaneries of the diocese. They are truly a significant number, as they are more than 500 people from all the parishes of Callao, which are joined this time with the newly formed missionary brothers from deanery II, at a meeting on "discipleship."
From a note sent to Fides, we learn that this activity of the Permanent Mission involves a week of hard work that opens with the “discipleship” meeting, which is a time of retreat and prayer for a personal encounter with Christ (August 20 to 22). After this starts the Missionary Training School (August 24 to 28 at the headquarters of the Diocese of Callao, at the "Sembrador de Paz" Hall). The missionary week ends with a Mass with the sending of missionaries, presided by Bishop Miguel Irizar Campos. The bishop sends the new missionaries, now prepared, with their missionary's cross around their neck and their Bible in hand, to evangelize the area. This time, they will evangelize the area of La Perla, with its suburbs such as Tarata, Cahuide, Brasil, and part of the Grande via Jose Galvez. The evangelization will be door-to-door, following the example of the first disciples of Jesus Christ.
The diocesan "Operation Contact" is the outreach effort of the Catholic Church in Callao to its poorest and most fallen away brothers and has been supported for several years by Bishop Miguel Irizar Campos, Bishop of Callao. (CE) (Agenzia Fides 08/25/2010)
