AMERICA/CHILE - The ardour of Pauline Jaricot for Young Missionaries' National Day (JOMIS)

Tuesday, 20 July 2010

Santiago (Agenzia Fides) – “A Missionary Church with Pauline, without borders or barriers” is the theme of the next Young Missionaries National Day (JOMIS) to be celebrated all over Chile on 22 July. According to information sent to Fides by the Chilean national office of the Pontifical Mission Societies, JOMIS, present in dioceses all over the country, brings together young people with a deep desire to respond to the missionary mandate “go to the ends of the earth and proclaim the Gospel ”. These groups of young missionaries, who belong to the Pontifical Mission Society Propagation of the Faith, through formation, shared prayer and community life, strive to become visible and credible witnesses of the presence of the Lord Jesus in their respective communities.
The report from PMS Chile explains that in the continental context of a Year dedicated to Pauline Jaricot (9 January 2010 - 9 January 2011), young missionaries of America who belong to Pontifical Mission Societies are striving to imitate this great young woman who with “missionary zeal and ardour”, in 1822 founded the Society Propagation of the Faith. “Pauline Jaricot is always an effective example of missionary commitment, she wins the attention of young people and encourages them, calling them to find suitable ways to render our Church today deeply and truly missionary ” the report reads.
The charisma of the Pontifical Mission Society Propagation of the Faith is to increase mission awareness and commitment among the people of God; to cooperate in the formation of animators for mission in the universal dimension; to work with missionary Nurses and Young missionaries; to promote missionary cooperation through prayer and material offerings especially on the occasion of World Mission Sunday.
Pauline Jaricot left a legacy of the three basic elements in her life as a Christian: a) unceasing prayer, devotion to the Eucharist and the Blessed Virgin Mary with the recitation of the Rosary; b) offerings for the Propagation of the Faith, the Mission Sunday collection; c) a path for Christian lay spirituality open to all, while living in the world.
