AMERICA/COLOMBIA - Coal mine tragedy, casualties include 2 former Don Bosco pupils

Amaga (Agenzia Fides) – On 16 June, in the town of Amaga, 73 miners at the end their shift were killed by an explosion of built-up methane. The Don Bosco news service ANS said the casualties included two former pupils of the Salesian school and 13 men, fathers of pupils at the same school. The Salesian Ciudad Don Bosco, which includes various youth centers and a vocational training center in Amaga and Angelopolis in an area where mining is predominant. In a public ceremony in the main park in Amaga, the first victims recovered were buried. Bishop José Soleibe Arbelaez of the diocese of Caldas, presided at the funeral.
