AMERICA - “Life, Bread, Peace, Freedom,” at the light of the Aparecida Document: continental meeting of Catholic Action

Mexico City (Agenzia Fides) – Today, July 8, marks the opening of the Sixth American Continental Meeting of Catholic Action at the headquarters of the Mexican Bishops' Conference, Casa Lago, Mexico City. The theme of the event is: "Life, Bread, Peace, Freedom: Catholic Action Laity in the City for a More Humane World." In presenting the initiative, Emilio Inzaurraga, FIAC Coordinator (International Forum of Catholic Action) and President of Catholic Action in Argentina, said: "Concerned about the social, political, economic, and ecclesiastical reality of the continent, the leaders of different countries will analyze these issues in light of the Document of Aparecida by CELAM, to seek together a response of hope that will help to humanize the world." The meeting also provides an opportunity to share the experiences of Catholic Action in the American countries, with particular emphasis on younger age groups.
The meeting, which ends July 11, involves bishops, priests, and lay people from Mexico, Argentina, Paraguay, Venezuela, Colombia, Peru, Ecuador and, as observers, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Cuba. Also present for the first time, will be representatives of Catholic Action in Miami (United States) and Puerto Rico.
