Wednesday, 7 July 2010

Castanhal (Agenzia Fides) – This past weekend (July 2,3,4), a meeting organized by leaders of the Child and Adolescent Missionary Coordination of State of Pará, in the Amazon, was held to motivate and excite the youth missionaries which form a part of the Society for the Propagation of the Faith. The meeting took place in the city of Castanhal-PA, with the aim of establishing groups of young missionaries, through the study of the method and knowledge of the purpose of the Pontifical Society for the Propagation of the Faith, namely, collaboration with the universal mission.
According to Fr. Andrea Gamba, Xaverian Missionary and missions coordinator for the State of Para, this meeting with the youth missionaries is "the first fruit produced by the work of the Holy Childhood Association, after a long journey. The Amazon is a land that offers much to the world in terms of raw materials and mineral resources, but that can give much more through its youth for the evangelization of the non-Christian world, even outside the Latin American continent." The youth were presented with the importance of solidarity in support of missionary projects beyond borders, enkindling in them the desire to become missionaries in countries without Catholic missionaries.
The meeting was attended by the Diocese of Abaetetuba, Belém, Conceicao de Araguaia, the prelature of Cameta, and the Prelature of Xingu, of the state of Pará and Pinheiro, Diocese of the state of Maranhao. The participants were about 130 young people. The meeting was led by Father Andre Luiz, National Secretary of the Pontifical Society for the Propagation of the Faith.
