ASIA/HONG KONG - Upcoming ordination of 4 permanent deacons, all with experience as Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist

Hong Kong (Agenzia Fides) – The diocese of Hong Kong is preparing for the ordination of 4 permanent deacons. As reported by the Kong Ko Bao (the Chinese version of the diocesan bulletin), the solemn celebration will be presided by Bishop John Tong of Hong Kong on Saturday, July 24 in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. The fourth candidate, all in their 50s, have all been at the service of the local Church as Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist for years. Furthermore, they are all members of diocesan pastoral commissions: the Commission for Justice and Peace, the Pastoral Commission for the Disabled, the Pastoral Commission for the Family and Marriage, the Liturgy Commission, the Commission for the Pastoral Care of Workers, and the Youth Commission. According to the statistics of the Hong Kong Catholic Church Directory 2010, as of August 31, 2009, the Diocese of Hong Kong had 11 permanent deacons, thus with the new ordinations the number will rise to 15.
