Thursday, 10 June 2010

Tai Pei (Agenzia Fides) – The 25 years of service to the poorest of the poor, the sick, elderly, abandoned, provided by the Missionaries of Charity founded by Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta, have not only brought benefits to the poorest of society but have also led to the creation of a huge army of volunteers consisting of people of different faiths and races, identifying a sign of the times meant to bring the love of the Church to society. This is a summary of what Archbishop John Hung, SVD, Archbishop of Tai Pei, said during the celebration for the 25th anniversary of the Missionaries of Mother Teresa at the service of the Archdiocese of Tai Pei. Over 300 participants attended the festive celebration, concelebrated by 15 priests. Sister Leon, Regional Superior of the South East Asian Region of the Missionaries of Charity, presented the history of these 25 years, thanking the local Church for their support and the volunteers for their generosity.
Today, about 5,000 daughters of Blessed Teresa of Calcutta follow in her footsteps in 139 countries and regions, with 800 Houses of Charity spread across the entire world. In Tai Pei and Tai Nan, there are two Houses of Charity with dozens of sisters of different nationalities who offer their service with the help of thousands of Taiwanese volunteers. These volunteers often also serve some time in the House in Calcutta. (NZ) (Agenzia Fides 10/06/2010)
